The Wanderer: A 5 Stage Soma Faith Movement Practice
There is a version of you that doesn’t rush ahead.
That doesn’t demand clarity before moving.
That knows how to begin… without knowing.
This is the Wanderer.
In this Soma Faith practice, we explore the Wanderer through a 5-stage embodied journey—not as an idea, but as something lived and felt in the body.
We move through the natural progression of human development:
Embryonic: returning inward, held in stillness
Creeping: awakening subtle impulse and curiosity
Crawling: exploring connection with the ground and environment
Crouch to Standing: rising through transition and trust
Walking (Fully Vertical): moving with awareness, presence, and openness
Each stage invites you to release control in a different way.
To listen more closely.
To trust what is unfolding rather than forcing what’s next.
This is not about performance or perfect movement.
It is about learning how to be guided from within.
The Wanderer reminds us:
You don’t need the full path to take the next step.
Soma Faith Practice: The Wanderer’s Path
Intro
The Wanderer moves without a fixed map.
Not lost, open to discovering.
This practice invites you into the sacred unknown, where certainty softens and awareness deepens. The Wanderer follows presence over prediction, curiosity over control. Each stage of movement mirrors a return to your beginnings. Tracing your body’s natural organic unfolding into upright, conscious traveling motion.
Wandering becomes a way of listening.
Opening Prayer / Intention
Source of Life,
Breath within breath,
Ground beneath my body
Meet me in this moment of unknowing.
Quiet the need to control the path.
Soften the grasp for certainty.
Awaken my body to trust the unfolding,
Moment by moment, step by step.
Let this wandering be guided from within.
Let it be enough to be here.
The 5 Stages of the Wanderer
1a. Embryonic (The Beginning / Surrender to Holding)
Embodiment:
Curl into a small, contained shape, on the floor or seated. Knees drawn in, head softened downward, arms wrapping or resting close.
Inner posture:
“I begin in stillness.”
Script:
The Wanderer starts not by moving outward, but by returning inward. In this stage, you are held. There is no direction, no demand, only being beginning.
Let your breath be small, gentle and natural.
Feel the quiet safety of contraction.
You do not need to know where you are going.
1B. Embryonic (The first impulse/fluid)
Embodiment:
Begin subtle movements close to the ground, rolling, shifting weight, small reaches. Keep your body low and connected. Moving from front to back and left to right. Touching all 4 sides with the ground beneath you.
Inner posture:
“I allow movement to unfold fluidly.”
Script:
From stillness, a gentle impulse emerges. The Wanderer begins to explore not with urgency, relaxed fluid movement, floating in time and space.
Let your movements be soft and exploratory.
There is no right direction. Explore all directions.
Follow sensation. Follow interest. Follow and move into Curiosity…
2. Creeping (Awakening Curiosity)
Embodiment:
Belly down, begin subtle shifting movements close to the ground, shifting left to right, small reaches. One side long, the other short. Curiously explore your 2 body sides sliding on the ground. Invite a lot of your body to be in contact with the earth. Connect with the felt sense of support underneath you. A smooth, constant, surface inviting you to awaken curiosity.
Inner posture:
“I allow curiosity to lead.”
Script:
From stillness, (one side long, the other short) allow gentle impulses to begin to shift your movement, one side to the other. The Wanderer begins to explore the twins of left and right, long and short, in and out, with curiosity.
Let your movements be gentle and curious.
There is no right speed. Explore all possibilities. Explore your dualities.
Follow Curiosity
3. Crawling (Exploration / Engaging the World)
Embodiment:
Come onto hands and knees. Begin to crawl slowly, feeling the coordination of limbs, feet sunny side up and your four pillars (knees/shins/tops of feet + palms/hands/fingers) in a strong connection to the ground.
Inner posture:
“I engage with what is before me.”
Script:
Now the Wanderer moves more fully into the environment. There is a growing confidence; not in knowing the path, but in moving through and with the body, from the known into the unknown. New patterns of exploration.
Feel the rhythm of your body.
Notice how you support yourself.
You are learning through motion, though sensation, through repetition.
4. Crouch to Standing (Transition / Rising Awareness)
Embodiment:
Gradually shift from crawling into a crouched vertical position. Squatted play with shifting weight from left to right, from ball of the foot to whole foot, let your tail drop and your heart open, surrender into what is underneath, then slowly rise to standing up. Take your time, pause in between levels and recognize regressing to the stage before can be a moment of empowered strength, not weakness.
Inner posture:
“I trust the unfolding.”
Script:
The Wanderer shifts from horizontal to vertical, shifts weight, steady and grounded, then rises. This is a threshold, between grounded exploration and expanded awareness.
Notice the effort, the balance, the change in perspective.
You are not rushing upward; you are unfolding into above, sensing the electro magnetic pull nudging you.
Let your transition be as meaningful as the arrival.
5. Walking / Fully Vertical (Integration / Conscious Wandering)
Embodiment:
Begin to walk slowly and freely. Let your steps be intentional yet unforced. Allow direction to emerge naturally.
Inner posture:
“I walk with presence.”
Script:
Now fully upright, the Wanderer moves through space with awareness. Not fixed, not lost, simply present.
Each step is a choice to remain open.
Each movement is guided by subtle knowing.
You are not separate from the path.
You are part of the path, unfolding.
Closing Prayer / Reflection
Source of Life,
Thank you for meeting me in stillness and in motion,
In not knowing and in becoming.
As I move forward from here,
Help me carry this trust
That I can walk without certainty
And still be guided.
May my body remember this rhythm of unfolding.
May my steps remain grounded in presence.
Blessing
May you feel supported in every stage of becoming
In stillness, in movement, in rising.
May your wandering be gentle, not forced.
May curiosity guide you more than certainty.
And may you trust
That even without a map,
You are exactly where you need to be.
Voice of the WandereR
I move without needing to know where I am going.
I release the map, again and again.
I begin small, folded inward—
Held in stillness, listening before I act.
There is wisdom in my quiet,
In the spaces where nothing is decided.
I follow the first subtle impulse.
A shift, a breath, a leaning toward something unseen.
Curiosity is enough to guide me.
I explore what is in front of me,
Not needing the whole path—
Only the courage to stay present with what is here.
I rise in my own time.
There is no rush to arrive.
Every transition belongs.
I walk now, aware, open, receiving.
Each step teaches me something I could not learn by standing still.
I trust what unfolds through me.
Even when I do not understand it,
I remain in relationship with the movement.
I am not lost.
I am discovering.
I am not behind.
I am becoming.
I am not without direction.
I am guided in ways I am learning to feel.
I am the Wanderer
Rooted in presence,
Shaped by the journey,
Open to what comes next.
