The concept of Horizontal & Vertical Flow provides us with an opportunity to explore our body’s way through the choice of 3 levels (1, 2 3) and 3 planes (low, middle, high)

.The intent will be to have a felt sense of the flow of movements ups and downs and ins and outs.

The Three Planes - Low, Middle and High - are what you naturally go through to stand up. From Nia’s perspective, and from The Body’s Way, if that is what the body does to learn how to stand up, it makes sense to keep going back through the Low, Middle and High Planes to keep our body conditioned and youthful

Feeling Fabulously Technical

Today I joyfully (and thankfully) was able to
1. teach my Nia class ONLINE with the 30 day movement challengers around the world
2. dance with my mum, in her kitchen and
3. teach/be with the local Montgomery ladies at Soma Ranch (through the big screen/sound system + fabulous technical help from my husband Joe Terry)
S I M U L T A N E O U S L Y!!!

I was using only my laptop (couldn't bring my "spaghetti" set up of mixers, wires, head set, remote mic, powered speakers with me). In advance settings I was able to share my music directly from the laptop into the zoom platform. Then, with one Airpod in my ear, and the other in Mum's, we were both able to dance to the music and I was able to use my (one) Airpod as my mic, bluetoothed into my lap top = great sound!! thanks zoom!

This has been one of the best travel experiences we’ve had. Both Joe and Helen were outstanding. They started us with a grocery kit which is incredibly nice. They were extremely helpful and pleasant. My kids loved the many activities, animals and surroundings. Joe was very kind in helping us pet the horses and donkeys and helpings us fish. My kids really enjoyed being around Joe. The ranch accommodations are excellent and the amenities are in great shape. It is such a lovely and pleasant place. Perfect for a family vacation or weekend escape. Definitely recommend!

"Art of Sensation" Public Nia Classes

At Soma Ranch, during our special annual Nia White Belt immersive retreat, we are thrilled to offer Nia Art of Sensation public classes that fuse the joy of dance, the precision of martial arts, and the mindfulness of healing arts.

Led by our experienced and passionate resident Nia teacher trainer, Helen Terry, these classes create a space for individuals of all ages and fitness levels to cultivate body awareness, release stress, and express themselves through movement.

Participants are guided through a dynamic and exhilarating journey, engaging their senses and connecting with their bodies on a deeply personal level. With an eclectic soundtrack that ranges from world music to pop hits, the Nia Art of Sensation classes offer a vibrant and inclusive community where participants can experience the transformative power of movement.

Monday Cuppa, 11am July 10

Our “1st Monday Community Cuppa” event is a fun and nourishing part of our “2024 race Fundraiser for St Jude”

We get together, celebrate, connect and boost each other as we also boost our fundraiser. both in a GRAND way.

Yes! our “Monthly Monday Cuppa” connections are WONDERFUL…

Every month, (most often) the first Monday, we meet up after 10am Nia class to connect, enjoy a cuppa and have a grand time.

Coffee, tea, kombucha, snacks and time to hang, get to know each other better, help and support.

This is one of our community events where 100% donations collected go towards St Jude, our “Soma Selected” charity of choice.

Our goal is to raise $8000 for St. Jude. We collect donations at our monthly “Monday Coffee Connection”, Soma Faith classes and Special Events throughout the year.

On Monday entertain 10am Nia Class, then connect with our lovely community with coffee, teas and snacks. We hope you can join us.

We have a great time listening to each other’s thoughts, challenges and successes. We provide support and offer prayers.

This Saturday Soma Ranch Co-Owner, Helen Terry, is teaching both the 8:45am Nia 5 Stages class and the 10:00am. Focus: Sharing What You Sense for both classes. In the Nia 10am class, we will be dancing with the Nia Routine Deep Dive. Initiating our 30 day challenge focus of Sensational Fitness & Health. This year we are following a tradition at the beginning of each month with the Nia Routine Deep Dive. This is an experience where we choose to say good bye to the month before as we step into the new month, ready to say Hello to the new month. Following the principle of let go of something to welcome something new in.

Beginning with the Nia 5 Stages class, which most often is described as a luxurious healing hour of setting the focus for the 10am movement experience that follows.

When you sign up for a class you are automatically sent the Zoom link for class.

You are welcome to attend either class.

And, when you’re able to attend both classes, something magic happens! The entire Nia 5 stages class is like a rich 60 minute introduction to the 10am Nia class, a beautiful compliment and super preparation.

In this gentle, self discovering, potentially healing Nia 5 stages experience

  • your body gets to settle into and taste the Nia class focus

  • your mind can learn new and novel information,

  • your heart may open to receive more with fascination up and frustration down

  • your spirit could be tickled and curious to experience more

Soma News: June 30, 2023

This week we have been recovering from our most “dramatic” storm. Joe has done an amazing job of cutting down branches, clearing debris and all round picking up a LOT of sticks!

Photos: We are giving thanks how the storm came through the DAY BEFORE the swimmers arrived, we were able to clear enough to not damper the swim camp experience and LOVED having Montgomery Aquatic Race Club return.

We appreciate groups like MARC who are a joy to be around, wonderful to host and how they keep wanting to come back for more (returning visitors are one of the best compliments). The swimmers are already booking for 2024 - YAY

This Saturday Helen is teaching both the Nia 5 Stages 8:45am and Classic Nia 10:00am Classes. We hope you can experience these wonderful classes either live via zoom or through the 24HR replay. Focus: Sensation in Movement

Intent: Taste the flavors of fitness with joy and community

The July Challenge “Sensation in Movement” is all about sizzling sensations and joy of movement. Providing you with classes that provide tastes of the flavors of fitness we often in Nia call the FAMSS; Flexibility, Agility, Mobility, Strength, Stability.

Some classes will explore the benefits of one of these sensations for example

  • Flexibility, where we will explore the sensation of energy out, like laser beams extending down and through our bones, with the intent to feel lighter and longer.

  • Strength, where we will explore the sensation of energy in, with muscles like sponges squeezing and releasing in and around our bones, with the intent to feel taller and stronger.

Other classes will explore duality and contrast between these sensations, for example.

  • Mobility and Stability, where we will explore the sensation of balanced motion through the Body’s way of simultaneous stability and mobility of the body

  • Agility and Stability, where we will explore the sensation of start and stop action in motion in relationship with the support of body and mind stability

  • Flexibility and Strength, were we will explore the duality, and motion of, movement into and away from the body

A month to help

  • improve your fitness

  • feed your brain with new novel and fascinating information and experiences

  • stimulate health and well being throughout your body and life

  • provide balance and a holistic approach to fitness and movement

  • enhance your dance with safety, comfort and pleasure

The “challenge” will provide a variety of modalities including Nia, Moving to Heal, Feldenkrais, Ageless Grace, 52 Moves, Move IT, offered by a stellar team of teachers, Helen Terry + Rock Stars and Special Guests. How to give gratitude for being able to move, feel vibrant, healthy and well, from an abundance of choice and variety.

Duality Foci will include:
