Howdy!

Beautiful, misty, sunrise at Soma Ranch

Helen is teaching Saturday morning classes ONLINE this week: 8:45am 5 Stages, followed by the 10am Soma Faith Movement class. Both sessions are exploring the “Wanderer” in relationship with the “Explorer,” inviting us into curiosity, openness, and embodied discovery.

Looking ahead, May brings us into our Hero Archetype month . A season dedicated to courage, devotion, and stepping more fully into our path. We’d love for you to join us for the journey. If you sign up by the 28th of this month, you’re also welcome to bring a friend for free throughout May.

Last week we shared an update on “Soma For Sale” update including our search for someone to live at Soma Ranch as a part time “Ranch Helper”. This week “poof” life (we like to believe God!) has already responded: we now have a very capable new property manager joining us for a trial stay at the Ranch. On top of that, a delightful enquiry came in this afternoon from someone interested in purchasing the property. Things are moving in unexpected and encouraging ways.

Last night, Helen and Joe headed to Bryan, Texas to see Curious Savage, a wonderful local production featuring our very own Soma teacher and mover Gigi in the lead role. There are still a few more performances this weekend and next—highly recommended if you enjoy intimate theatre that is both humorous and deeply moving.

Be well, with love from

Helen, Joe, the team and all the fond 4 legged friends at Soma.

5. The Hero

The Hero Archetype: Aims to prove worth through courageous action; competent, disciplined.

I am the Hero.
I rise when courage is required.
I act not because I am fearless,
but because love asks me to

“Feel the strength that lives in you; not for dominance, but for devotion.”

Our month of May steps forward with clarity and resolve. The Hero emerges not in theory, but in action; grounded, disciplined, and willing to be seen in the arena. This is the energy that seeks to prove worth not through perfection, but through courageous participation. This part of us trains, commits and follows through.

Theme: Courage in motion—showing up, stepping forward, and choosing growth over comfort.
Tone: Steady, empowering, and focused; less hype, more conviction.
Focus: Building strength through consistency, refining discipline, and taking ownership of your path. The Hero understands that transformation is earned in the daily decisions—the reps, the rhythms, the return after resistance.
Invitation: Where is life asking you to be brave right now? Step toward it. Choose one area to act with intention and integrity. Stay with it. Let your courage be quiet but unwavering, and allow your actions to shape who you are becoming.

In May, we don’t wait to feel ready, we become ready by moving.

We’re on a heroic journey for 2026. This month we’re moving with the archetype of The Hero: Would you like to join us?

Each month we spotlight a different hero archetype through dance, movement, exploration, discussion, and education.

All experiences will be online via Zoom with 1-7 day replays.

There will be live movement classes 10am Monday, Thursday, Saturday, 8am Fridays, plus Saturday 8:45 5 Stages Developmental Experiences, all via zoom with replays.

Helen will teach the majority of these classes, Irene will continue to provide Feldenkrais experiences and Natasha and Gigi teach Nia.

You can also enjoy rePLAY experiences including dance breaks, EFT tapping, Evolutionary Mystic Meditations and more varying from 10 - 45 minutes with 3 day replays.

Beyond continuing to provide our regular somatic (Body Centered) movement experiences that support your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, this new 12‑month, 365‑day, project aims to

  • deepen our understanding of the personalities within us by exploring them through movement, exploration and education.

  • develop additional resources for self‑awareness and fascination

  • move toward being the best humans we can be (yes! let’s dream and aim big LOL)

The 12 hero archetypes, popularized from Carl Jung's work, are universal character patterns used in storytelling, branding, and psychology, representing core human motivations and experiences, and include the Innocent, Everyman, Hero, Caregiver, Explorer, Rebel, Creator, Lover, Jester, Sage, Magician, and Ruler, each seeking different things like freedom, connection, or mastery.

The 12 Archetypes:

  • The Innocent: Seeks happiness and safety; optimistic, simple.

  • The Everyman: Wants to belong and connect; relatable, down-to-earth.

  • The Rebel: Wants revolution and to break rules; disruptive, transformative.

  • The Explorer: Seeks freedom and new experiences; adventurous, independent.

  • The Hero: Aims to prove worth through courageous action; competent, disciplined.

  • The Lover: Seeks intimacy, connection, and passion; sensual, loyal.

  • The Caregiver: Desires to help and protect others; nurturing, generous.

  • The Jester: Wants to live in the moment and bring joy; fun, playful.

  • The Creator: Aims to build something of enduring value; innovative, artistic.

  • The Sage: Seeks truth and understanding; wise, knowledgeable.

  • The Magician: Wants to make dreams come true; visionary, powerful.

  • The Ruler: Seeks control and order; authoritative, leader.

How They're Used:

These archetypes help authors create relatable characters, build strong brands by aligning with consumer desires, and offer frameworks for personal growth by identifying one's dominant patterns.

In 1996, as a Nia Technique trainer, realizing I needed to do more of my own inner work and be better able to hold space for leading people through embodied movement experiences, I began a master’s in Alternative Dance Therapy at the Jung Center in Houston. That started a 30-year journey of fascinated interest in authentic movement, archetypes, and somatic (body centered) healing.

I’m excited to bring these passions to our 365 and 30 day movement journeys in 2026.
— Helen Terry

Each month you will receive

  • movement classes with foci that support the “archetype of the month”

The Wanderer: A Soma Faith Movement Playlist

The Wanderer: A Soma Faith Movement Playlist

There are seasons where we don’t have a clear map.
Where direction feels less like certainty and more vague.

This is the space of the Wanderer.

Not lost: discovering.
Not aimless: attentive.

Helen created 3 playlists as part of a Soma Faith movement practice centered on the Wanderer aspect of the Explorer archetype; the one who learns to trust the unfolding path, step by step, breath by breath.

Rather than starting with choreography or structure, I began with a question:

What does it feel like in the body to not know where you’re going and still keep moving?

The answer became a journey through music.

How This Playlist Was Created

Each song was chosen to support a specific phase of embodied movement, mirroring the natural developmental arc of the body:

  • Beginning in stillness (embryonic)

  • Awakening through subtle movement (creeping)

  • Exploring through rhythm (crawling)

  • Rising into awareness (crouch to standing)

  • Walking fully present and free (upright wandering)

I wove in global influences: African rhythms, Middle Eastern tones, ambient and instrumental layers, to create a sense of movement beyond borders. The Wanderer doesn’t belong to one place, or one genre. The journey is expansive, human, shared.

The music builds gradually, never forcing intensity, yet certainly the invitation is there, before we can then gently dissolves back into stillness.

An Invitation

This is more than a playlist.
You are invited to sense this as an experience.

I invite you to set aside about 50 minutes, press play, and let your body lead.

You don’t need to perform.
You don’t need to get it “right.”

Just begin where you are:

  • Start low, close to the ground

  • Follow small impulses

  • Let your movement grow naturally

  • Rise when you feel ready, when it feels right

  • Walk, wander, pause, listen = anything goes, nothing forced

Let the music guide you, let your body respond.

Closing Reflection

Wandering isn’t about finding the fastest way forward.
It’s about becoming someone who can move without needing all the answers.

My hope is that these playlists gives you space to explore that
not just in your mind, but in your body.

Choose playlist options 1 2 or 3.

Choose to play in order or click shuffle!

Press play.
And begin.

Explore the Wanderer with Soma Faith 5 Stages

The Wanderer: A 5 Stage Soma Faith Movement Practice

There is a version of you that doesn’t rush ahead.
That doesn’t demand clarity before moving.
That knows how to begin… without knowing.

This is the Wanderer.

In this Soma Faith practice, we explore the Wanderer through a 5-stage embodied journey—not as an idea, but as something lived and felt in the body.

We move through the natural progression of human development:

  • Embryonic: returning inward, held in stillness

  • Creeping: awakening subtle impulse and curiosity

  • Crawling: exploring connection with the ground and environment

  • Crouch to Standing: rising through transition and trust

  • Walking (Fully Vertical): moving with awareness, presence, and openness

Each stage invites you to release control in a different way.
To listen more closely.
To trust what is unfolding rather than forcing what’s next.

This is not about performance or perfect movement.
It is about learning how to be guided from within.

The Wanderer reminds us:
You don’t need the full path to take the next step.

Soma Faith Practice: The Wanderer’s Path

Intro

The Wanderer moves without a fixed map.
Not lost, open to discovering.

This practice invites you into the sacred unknown, where certainty softens and awareness deepens. The Wanderer follows presence over prediction, curiosity over control. Each stage of movement mirrors a return to your beginnings. Tracing your body’s natural organic unfolding into upright, conscious traveling motion.

Wandering becomes a way of listening.

Opening Prayer / Intention

Source of Life,
Breath within breath,
Ground beneath my body

Meet me in this moment of unknowing.

Quiet the need to control the path.
Soften the grasp for certainty.
Awaken my body to trust the unfolding,
Moment by moment, step by step.

Let this wandering be guided from within.
Let it be enough to be here.

The 5 Stages of the Wanderer

1a. Embryonic (The Beginning / Surrender to Holding)

Embodiment:
Curl into a small, contained shape, on the floor or seated. Knees drawn in, head softened downward, arms wrapping or resting close.

Inner posture:
“I begin in stillness.”

Script:
The Wanderer starts not by moving outward, but by returning inward. In this stage, you are held. There is no direction, no demand, only being beginning.

Let your breath be small, gentle and natural.
Feel the quiet safety of contraction.
You do not need to know where you are going.

1B. Embryonic (The first impulse/fluid)

Embodiment:
Begin subtle movements close to the ground, rolling, shifting weight, small reaches. Keep your body low and connected. Moving from front to back and left to right. Touching all 4 sides with the ground beneath you.

Inner posture:
“I allow movement to unfold fluidly.”

Script:
From stillness, a gentle impulse emerges. The Wanderer begins to explore not with urgency, relaxed fluid movement, floating in time and space.

Let your movements be soft and exploratory.
There is no right direction. Explore all directions.
Follow sensation. Follow interest. Follow and move into Curiosity…

2. Creeping (Awakening Curiosity)

Embodiment:
Belly down, begin subtle shifting movements close to the ground, shifting left to right, small reaches. One side long, the other short. Curiously explore your 2 body sides sliding on the ground. Invite a lot of your body to be in contact with the earth. Connect with the felt sense of support underneath you. A smooth, constant, surface inviting you to awaken curiosity.

Inner posture:
“I allow curiosity to lead.”

Script:
From stillness, (one side long, the other short) allow gentle impulses to begin to shift your movement, one side to the other. The Wanderer begins to explore the twins of left and right, long and short, in and out, with curiosity.

Let your movements be gentle and curious.
There is no right speed. Explore all possibilities. Explore your dualities.
Follow Curiosity

3. Crawling (Exploration / Engaging the World)

Embodiment:
Come onto hands and knees. Begin to crawl slowly, feeling the coordination of limbs, feet sunny side up and your four pillars (knees/shins/tops of feet + palms/hands/fingers) in a strong connection to the ground.

Inner posture:
“I engage with what is before me.”

Script:
Now the Wanderer moves more fully into the environment. There is a growing confidence; not in knowing the path, but in moving through and with the body, from the known into the unknown. New patterns of exploration.

Feel the rhythm of your body.
Notice how you support yourself.
You are learning through motion, though sensation, through repetition.

4. Crouch to Standing (Transition / Rising Awareness)

Embodiment:
Gradually shift from crawling into a crouched vertical position. Squatted play with shifting weight from left to right, from ball of the foot to whole foot, let your tail drop and your heart open, surrender into what is underneath, then slowly rise to standing up. Take your time, pause in between levels and recognize regressing to the stage before can be a moment of empowered strength, not weakness.

Inner posture:
“I trust the unfolding.”

Script:
The Wanderer shifts from horizontal to vertical, shifts weight, steady and grounded, then rises. This is a threshold, between grounded exploration and expanded awareness.

Notice the effort, the balance, the change in perspective.
You are not rushing upward; you are unfolding into above, sensing the electro magnetic pull nudging you.

Let your transition be as meaningful as the arrival.

5. Walking / Fully Vertical (Integration / Conscious Wandering)

Embodiment:
Begin to walk slowly and freely. Let your steps be intentional yet unforced. Allow direction to emerge naturally.

Inner posture:
“I walk with presence.”

Script:
Now fully upright, the Wanderer moves through space with awareness. Not fixed, not lost, simply present.

Each step is a choice to remain open.
Each movement is guided by subtle knowing.

You are not separate from the path.
You are part of the path, unfolding.

Closing Prayer / Reflection

Source of Life,
Thank you for meeting me in stillness and in motion,
In not knowing and in becoming.

As I move forward from here,
Help me carry this trust
That I can walk without certainty
And still be guided.

May my body remember this rhythm of unfolding.
May my steps remain grounded in presence.

Blessing

May you feel supported in every stage of becoming
In stillness, in movement, in rising.

May your wandering be gentle, not forced.
May curiosity guide you more than certainty.

And may you trust
That even without a map,
You are exactly where you need to be.

Voice of the WandereR

I move without needing to know where I am going.
I release the map, again and again.

I begin small, folded inward—
Held in stillness, listening before I act.
There is wisdom in my quiet,
In the spaces where nothing is decided.

I follow the first subtle impulse.
A shift, a breath, a leaning toward something unseen.
Curiosity is enough to guide me.

I explore what is in front of me,
Not needing the whole path—
Only the courage to stay present with what is here.

I rise in my own time.
There is no rush to arrive.
Every transition belongs.

I walk now, aware, open, receiving.
Each step teaches me something I could not learn by standing still.

I trust what unfolds through me.
Even when I do not understand it,
I remain in relationship with the movement.

I am not lost.
I am discovering.

I am not behind.
I am becoming.

I am not without direction.
I am guided in ways I am learning to feel.

I am the Wanderer
Rooted in presence,
Shaped by the journey,
Open to what comes next.

Soma Ranch For Sale Update

Helen & Joe Terry, Soma Ranch Owners

Thank you to everyone who’s been checking in with questions like

“Have you sold Soma Ranch?”

“I thought the ranch was for sale?”

“Are you going to sell the ranch?”

The common, and most delightful, one: “WHY ON EARTH would you ever want to sell Soma Ranch?”

And a comment that made Helen giggle this week: “You are the busiest retired person I’ve ever known!”

Yep… this season certainly feels like quite a squeeze, and yet we are loving finally getting things done, moving in the right direction, and enjoying Soma Ranch at “her” very best.

No: we have not sold Soma Ranch yet.

Yes: Soma Ranch is for sale; however, we have not officially listed it publicly.

Yes: we are planning to sell Soma Ranch. Nothing is rushed, but we are ready when the time is right. Yes: although Soma Ranch is an amazing “slice of heaven” on earth, like all good things it has a beginning, a middle, and an end. We have thoroughly enjoyed the property, the experiences, the incredible people, and the many thoughtful improvements and developments. We are at a place of deep satisfaction with how Soma has evolved into an extraordinary, very special retreat. Now feels like the right time to pass the opportunity on to a new owner. For Helen and Joe, this season is about simplifying, liquidating assets, and pursuing our dream of becoming traveling hippies with few responsibilities and minimal chores.

We are the seventh owners of Soma, and curiously the property has changed hands privately every time. We have, perhaps romantically, procrastinated on listing the property officially in hopes we might “Sell By Owner.” Recently we came very close to selling to a wonderful group. They have been running retreats in the area and were looking to buy rather than continue renting retreat facilities. We loved meeting them, (hope we become forever friends!) and Soma Ranch exceeded their expectations. Working through the possibilities of selling Soma Ranch to this group helped confirm that we are positioned and priced appropriately. The key concern for this group was their need to maintain the ranch from a distance and their lack of previous experience managing ranch life.

Helen and Joe have listened, pivoted and are getting creative. In this interim period, before selling the ranch, we are looking at finding, training and developing a “live-in” ranch helper at Soma Ranch. This will both help us begin to travel, leave the ranch with relaxation and be a potential fabulous help and asset for the future owner of the ranch. We are set up to accept someone who has an RV. We are also open to the possibility of building, or bringing in, a tiny home at Soma Ranch. TBC.

Hope you enjoy receiving these updates. Be sure to keep your questions and comments flowing. And, of course, if you would like to be the next owner of Soma Ranch, let’s start the conversation!

Business continues “as usual” at Soma Ranch with

  • Helen providing regular Soma Faith Movement Classes

  • Short Term rental for individuals, families and groups are available

  • Retreat bookings continue to be accepted

We are also super excited as a family to be celebrating Joe’s 70th birthday in May. We have several family coming over from Europe who have never been to Texas, let alone seen Soma Ranch.

We Are One

Here’s an example of a Soma Faith Class. Each class has a clear theme that connects to the archetype feature of the month. For example, this class explores two central ideas around “We are One”: How, while each of us is uniquely individual, we are also fundamentally the same; and how every person we meet can be both a mystery to discover and a mirror reflecting parts of ourselves.

This theme ties into the explorer archetype: on our journey we are continually navigating

  • the familiar and the novel,

  • the known and the unknown,

  • the ease and the effort,

and we cultivate both the courage to wander and the wisdom to stay grounded on the path.

Helen opens the class with a guiding concept, a blessing, and often a short prayer. We then move through each song paired with gentle rhythmic choreography that supports the theme and invites embodied reflection.

Each Soma Faith experience is structured as a thoughtful journey: we warm up the body and heart, build the experience and expression, and finally ground and integrate everything in a closing meditation, prayer, and blessing.

Here’s the notes for this class:

Explorer archetype with “We Are One"  Unique Yet the Same. Hero's Journey 2026-04-16

Opening prayer, closing prayer, and blessing shaped around the Explorer archetype and the theme “We Are One — Unique Yet the Same.” The tone blends curiosity, reverence, and unity without losing individuality.

Opening Prayer (Explorer Tone)

Spirit of Life,

Guide of every path and every seeker,

As we gather here, each carrying different stories,

different questions, different ways of seeing

we step into this shared space as explorers.

Give us courage to wander inward,

to notice what is familiar in one another,

and what is beautifully unknown.

Remind us that though our paths look different,

we are walking the same sacred ground.

Searching, learning, becoming.

Open our hearts to connection,

our minds to discovery,

and our spirits to the quiet truth:

We are not separate travelers—

we are one journey, unfolding in many forms.

Amen.

Closing Prayer

Spirit who meets us on every road,

Thank you for what we have discovered today—

in ourselves, and in each other.

Where we saw difference,

plant deeper understanding.

Where we felt connection,

help it take root and grow.

As we leave this space,

send us out as gentle explorers—

curious instead of certain,

open instead of guarded.

Remind us that every person we meet

is both a mystery and a mirror.

And in that reflection,

may we remember:

We are one

unique in expression,

yet united in essence.

Amen.

Opening/Closing Blessing

May your path be wide enough for wonder,

and steady enough for truth.

May you honor what makes you different,

and recognize what makes you the same.

May you walk through the world

as both seeker and belonging

discovering, again and again,

that wherever you go,

you are part of the One.

Howdy!

Thank you awesome local community. Cuppa was well attended, a bundle of joy and a ton of inspiration. We also raised $60 towards our annual St Jude Fundraiser

Getting things “right” can be a deeply satisfying feeling. For example, Joe mowing all the grass at just the perfect time before a long, gentle rainfall created a wonderful sense of calm and order with GREEN everything. Renaming and rebranding the ranch back in 2012 was another excellent decision, one whose full benefits we truly appreciate only now. The Soma teaching team also feels beautifully “right”: different personalities and varied backgrounds coming together around a shared heart and clear vision. Request a taster of classes with Helen and the team by emailing helen@somaranch.com.

Lovely dancing in the Soma Studio with local ladies and folks around the world on the “wall of smiles” including Helen’s Mum!

Natasha is teaching both classes tomorrow, Saturday: Natural Time & The Movement Forms will be the focus for our Sat morning movement double scoop!

Happy April! Now is an excellent time to consider joining us for the month of April, with the exploration of The Explorer.

Thank you everybody who attended our 11am Monthly Community Cuppa. We had a lovely turn out, wonderful catch up, with amazing stories, from inspirational women. We raised $60 towards St Jude.

Why We Changed the Name To Soma Ranch

Helen & Joe Terry, photo shoot 2012, when they changed the business name to Soma Ranch.

As we prepare for a new season here at Soma Ranch, I’ve been reflecting on one decision I’m especially grateful we made many years ago: changing the name of the ranch from RanchONia to Soma Ranch.

At the time, I don’t think I fully understood just how significant that change would become.

Back in those early years, the ranch was deeply connected to Nia Technique, and for that we will always have genuine gratitude. Without Nia Technique, and Helen Terry’s developing Teacher Trainer career, we likely would never have begun to look for, let alone find, this land, founded the ranch, or begun the journey that has unfolded here. It was part of the story, and we honor that.

At the same time, there came a point when Helen knew the ranch needed a name that could stand on its own. A name that was broader, more timeless, and more fully aligned with the deeper vision of what this place was becoming.

That name was Soma Ranch.

Finding the name was a precious family-and-friend moment around the dining table at the ranch. Jean-Marie, our web designer, and Elaine, our graphic artist, called a meeting with the Terry family (Joe, Helen, and Liliana). We had already gone through the process and applied a digital “make up” to several domain name ideas, including:

  • Sacred Star Ranch

  • Live Well Ranch

  • Samsara Ranch

Our website team had completed the whole design branding for each of these, with personalized colors, fonts, a logo, and more, and yet they still felt something was missing. Joe and Liliana confessed how they had never liked the name RanchONia (to them it sounded like a cheesy salad dressing!) They also noted that “Sam” and “Sara,” pronounced with a Texas accent, felt far from the original vibe of the name Samsara. And, when someone suggested “LiveWell” ranch sounded like a hospice care facility, we no longer felt initial vibe.

Daughter Liliana, frustrated, began asking a series of probing questions: what is the center of what all y’all provide? What lies underneath? What is the foundation of all things at the ranch? Helen explained how “guided body-centered, somatic healing movement practice” was the core value. Liliana then asked, “what about calling it Soma Ranch?” Helen’s quick response, “Ha! If the domain name is available we will take it,” set things in motion. A swift search on GoDaddy confirmed that www.somaranch.com was indeed available, and the rest is history.

Soma means body wisdom. In Greek the word evolved into “the body living in its wholeness”. The word soma speaks to the body as lived from within (both vessel and vehicle for our mind, emotions and spirit) embodied, aware, whole, conscious and fully alive. Even years ago, that meaning resonated deeply with Helen, though she couldn’t yet see all the ways it would continue to unfold.

Now, in 2026, I can say with complete clarity: the name fits.
What once felt like a bold shift has proven to be incredibly wise.
— Helen Terry, Soma Ranch

Over time, “soma” has become a meaningful and increasingly recognized term in the worlds of movement, embodiment, wellness, and healing. Many people now discover Soma Ranch simply because they are searching with the word soma.

Even more beautifully, as Helen continues to develop Soma Faith Movement classes, where bring she brings her faith into her fitness and embodiment profession, she can see how naturally this all belongs together.

“The name has given me room to grow, evolve, and remain rooted in what is most true.”
— Helen Terry

That is one of the gifts of choosing well: sometimes a decision makes even more sense years later than it did in the moment.

There was also practical wisdom in the change that weren’t fully appreciate at the time. As Helen & Joe Terry prepare to sell the ranch, it is clear that Soma Ranch carries far more value and possibility as a name and brand than the much narrower identity of RanchONia ever could have. Even the domain somaranch.com has value in itself. If a future buyer of the ranch property doesn’t want the brand, the name still stands on its own.

And the truth is this:

Changing the name to Soma Ranch was the right decision.

  • It gave this place its own identity.

  • It gave the vision room to expand.

  • It gave the future somewhere to land.

Today, we feel both grateful and at peace.

Grateful for the beginnings.
Grateful for the lessons.
And deeply grateful that this place became Soma Ranch.

Now, more than ever, Helen can see that the name was not just a rebrand, it was the birth of something grand, an evolving act of alignment and it positioned the brand to remain relevant, valuable, and expansive for years to come.

“What I may not have fully understood in 2012, I understand with great clarity now. At the time, the renaming was a scary yet important shift. Looking back now, it was also a defining one. Some decisions only reveal their full wisdom over time. This was one of them. And for that, I remain deeply grateful. I can see even more clearly how wisely this foundation was laid. The name has never boxed us in. It has allowed the mission to mature while remaining deeply coherent.”
— Helen Terry

In 2026, the name Soma Ranch feels more relevant and resonant than ever. As the language of embodiment continues to grow, many people now discover us simply through searching for the word soma. What once felt visionary has, over time, become both meaningful and strategically valuable.

That is one of the clearest signs of a strong name:
where the name doesn’t merely describe what something is in one moment
instead it carries the capacity for what it is becoming.

The Joy of Hosting at Soma

Emilee and Henderson’s First Stay at Soma Ranch

There is something deeply meaningful about opening the doors of Soma to people we genuinely admire, honor, and love getting to know.

Hosting, for us, is less about offering a place to stay.

We love creating space for connection. Welcoming people who we are curious to get to know.

People who may begin as guests or clients, who often become friends, colleagues, collaborators, teachers, and part of the extended family that we are so grateful for at Soma Ranch.

Most guests arrive with both wisdom and a curious, open-heart. They are ready to receive what Soma offers, and eager to share their gifts. One of the most beautiful parts of hosting, being with guests, is the unique exchanges, often a mutual unfolding, sometimes a shared table and a deepening relationship.

Every now and then, something especially precious happens:
a bond is formed that feels lasting.

The kind of connection that doesn’t end when someone drives away.
The kind that continues through shared memories, future visits, heartfelt messages, and the quiet knowing that a lifelong friendship may be taking root.

This last week was one of these great joys of Soma.

A Sweet Stay with Emilee and Henderson

Resident mini frog says “hi” to guests on Soma back deck.

Recently, we had the joy of hosting Emilee and Henderson at Soma, and their stay was filled with the kind of moments that remind us why we created Soma Ranch.

They shared lovely photos, meaningful time, and precious moments that felt both simple and sacred. (like the photo of one of our little frogs they found on the outdoor lounge furniture!) The kind of moments that cannot be manufactured, only lived. (like the moment they caught all our animals curiously lining up along the fence) They truly immersed with presence, beauty, rest, inspiration, and the gift of being together in a place designed for exhale.

Hello from Nia, Zephyr, Cha cha and Spirit.

There is always something tender about watching people settle into Soma. How they truly enjoy the sacred place, not just as a destination, but an unfolding into a restful rhythm and a peaceful refuge. And one of the most comforting parts of hosting people we trust and care about is this:

When we leave and they remain at Soma, we know everything is going to be alright.

That kind of peace is much appreciated. It speaks to the energy of the people who come here, and to the kind of relationships we love to cultivate through this beautiful space.

Helen, is this even real?
You and Joe actually live here! It’s so beautiful in so many ways.
The immersion in nature, practice, and self reflection is nurturing...
I can certainly see the love you both put into making it a reality.
Thank you for sharing it with Emilee and me.❣️

...This continues to be a most enjoyable experience. 🙏🏽
— Henderson

Community That Keeps Growing

Curious 4 Legged Friends at Soma Ranch

Soma has always been about more than place.

It is about people.
It is about the relationships that form here.
It is about the conversations that linger after dinner, the laughter on the porch, the stillness in the morning, and the unexpected kinship that can emerge when people gather with openness and care.

We believe some of the most important things in life are built this way:
slowly, honestly, through shared experience.

And we are endlessly grateful for the people who cross the threshold of Soma and leave something of their light behind.

Froggy Joys of Being at Soma Ranch

With Gratitude

To all who come through Soma as guests and leave as something more,
thank you.

Thank you for trusting this space.
Thank you for bringing your stories, your wisdom, your presence, and your tenderness.
Thank you for reminding us that hospitality, when rooted in love, can become something far greater than hosting.

Hospitality can become friendship.
Hospitality can become collaboration.
Hospitality can become lifelong bond.

And that is one of the greatest gifts of all.

With love,
Soma Ranch (Helen & Joe Terry)

A Retreat Worth Checking Out

We are excited to share that Henderson “recent guest, fast becoming friend” has an incredible upcoming retreat that we highly recommend checking out.

This offering is centered on transformation through mind-body-breath integration with qigong and tai chi: a beautiful invitation into greater presence, alignment, vitality, and embodied awareness.

It feels deeply resonant with so much of what we value at Soma: returning to the body, listening inward, and cultivating a more integrated way of being.

For now, we’d love to encourage you to explore this fabulous workshop at the Zen Center Retreat.

And who knows…. maybe soon we’ll have the joy of hosting Henderson at Soma Ranch for an offering of his own.

We would absolutely love that. (let us know if you’re interested in a future retreat with Henderson)

Soma Faith 5 stages Class: The Explorer Archetype

A 60-Minute Embodied Journey Through the 5 Soma Stages

This Saturday, 8:45am Central Time, we enter the sacred terrain of the Explorer.

The Explorer is the part of us that longs to move beyond what is familiar; not through striving or escape, but through curiosity, courage, and trust. This archetype invites us to

  • soften control,

  • awaken wonder, and

  • rediscover the body as a place of guidance, revelation, and holy discovery.

In this 60-minute Soma Faith class, we will journey through the 5 Soma Stages of human development (embryonic, creeping, crawling, standing, and walking) as a pathway into deeper awareness, movement, and spiritual formation.

Each stage offers us a different invitation:

  • Embryonic invites us inward, toward rest, listening, and possibility

  • Creeping awakens our first impulses of curiosity and gentle initiation

  • Crawling teaches trust, rhythm, and the courage to move forward

  • Standing calls us into grounded presence, perspective, and confidence

  • Walking opens us to freedom, direction, and faithful movement into the unknown

This is not about “getting somewhere.”
It is about becoming present to the journey itself.

Together, we will explore what it feels like to

  • move with openness instead of urgency,

  • listen with the body,

  • allow faith to unfold one step at a time.

Through somatic movement, prayerful reflection, and embodied exploration, we will practice meeting the unknown not with fear, but with wonder.

In this class, you can expect:

  • Grounded, guided movement through all 5 developmental stages

  • Space for spiritual reflection and embodied prayer

  • A gentle invitation into curiosity, trust, and inner listening

  • An opportunity to reconnect with the sacred wisdom of your body

The Explorer reminds us that transformation often begins with a single willing step.

Come if you are longing to:

  • reconnect with curiosity and wonder

  • move through uncertainty with greater trust

  • explore your body as a sacred compass

  • deepen your faith through embodied practice

A theme to carry with you:

What if the path itself is holy?
What if your body already knows how to listen, respond, and move with grace?

Join us this Saturday as we wander, awaken, and remember:
every movement, every moment, can become a prayer.

You do not need to have it all figured out.
You do not need to force a breakthrough.
You only need a willingness to listen to what your body may already be ready to say.

This class offers space to ask:

  • Where have I been staying bound?

  • What am I ready to release?

  • What truth is asking to be lived through me now?

We would love to move with you.

When you sign up you automatically receive the Zoom link for class. You will also receive the 24 HR replay.
