Saturday 3/30/24 Erin Curren is teaching both the 8:45am Nia 5 Stages class and the 10:00am class.

Continuing our March Challenge of Variety. We will focus on the Spine in 5 stages then take this focus into the 10am class with Yoj! (Joy backwards LOL)

Nia 5 STAGES

Focus: Self Healing the Spine

Intent to keep energy flowing between the Cranium and Sacrum to stimulate mobility of the spine physically and energetically.  

10am Class: Yoj

Focus: Felt-sense of fitness (sometimes called FAMSSS)

Intent: Start within, sensing the movement as "an inside job"

Nia strikes me as a fitness practice that in some ways turns a typical dance class on its head. How often do you see a dance class represented as emphasizing the timing, the most important thing being that everyone is doing the exact same thing at the exact same time, performing for show? Nia changes the script and declares "we're less about what the movement looks like and more about what the movement feels like."  To this end we are turning the playlist on its head, starting from the end, inverting the order of songs, just like Nia asks us to start on the inside, not with what it looks like on the outside. 

Notice how beginning at the end of this well-loved body of work, Joy, which we've danced in many incarnations this month of variety, is bringing a familiar-yet-new sense to your dance. Enjoy the playful ways we can flip the playlist and the moves and, like a palindrome, create a mirrored movement experience that still includes all 7 cycles.

Beginning with the Nia 5 Stages class, which most often is described as a luxurious healing hour of setting the focus for the 10am movement experience that follows.

You are welcome to attend either class. And, when you’re able to attend both classes, something magic happens! The entire Nia 5 stages class is like a rich 60 minute introduction to the 10am Nia class, a beautiful compliment and super preparation.
