Nia White Belt Participant ~ Liz

Hello all,

My name is Liz Ramirez-Weaver.

I live in Charlottesville, VA with my husband and my almost teenaged daughter.

My first Nia class was at a local gym almost 14 years ago and it was a profoundly cathartic experience.

Moving, singing, and dancing are the ways I connect to my mind, body and spirit.

This is my first Nia retreat and my first trip to Texas!

I’m looking forward to meeting all of you.

Nia White Belt Participant ~ Martha

I am Martha Broecker. Originally from Virginia Beach, VA. Grew up on water and now land locked in Dallas, Texas!

I am retired as of April 2021 after a 40-year career in the retail industry

I have an adventurous spirit. My personal travel experiences are active, full of learning and meeting like-minded people. What I take-a-way from these encounters challenge my health and wellness spirit. I am game to try anything and prefer week-long retreats that give me space to unravel and learn.

I met Helen May 2022 when I took a movement class at another wellness spa. I was captivated by her energy, humor, and inspirational approach to exercise through gentle movement and dance.

I met Kellie Marie Harris in Helen’s class, and she spoke of the white belt training, and I was, hmmmm why not?

So, here I am ………….I’ve adopted the mantra that when I cross paths with someone or something intriguing, to follow my gut and explore that path.

Looking forward to connecting with all of you and having a momentous week!

Martha

Nia White Belt Trainer in Training ~ Kellie

Hello!  I am Kellie Chambers

I was born in Mesa, Arizona but grew up in Oregon.  Presently, I live in Pleasant Hill, Oregon where I own a studio called Just Move.  I am a 2nd Degree Nia Black Belt Instructor and a 3NGT Trainer in Training.  I will be participating as a student and taking notes to prepare to deliver White Belts Intensives in the future.  Helen is my good friend and mentor and I delight in the in-person training experience.  I am very much looking forward to joining you in Beginner's Mind!

I am a mother of three grown daughters and a grandmother of 4 beautiful cherubs all under the age of 4 who much to my delight live near me.  My dog thinks she is my 4th child.  I love Nia and I love Soma Ranch! We are going to have a great week together!

Nia White Belt Participant ~ Tiffany

I’m Tiffany Alley. I met Helen this Spring at Rancho la Puerta and ended up taking every studio class she taught the entire week.

I have my yoga teacher training and have dabbled with tai chi, and Nia just fits with how God is nurturing and growing me…and hopefully others I’m meeting along the way.

I live in Atlanta but for much of the summer we are at our cabin in Whiteside Cove, which is between Highlands and Cashiers in North Carolina. It’s generally 15 or even 20 degrees cooler here than in Atlanta.

Nia White Belt Participant ~ Kristen

Hi there.

I’m Kristen Wills, Georgia girl through and through. I’m currently ISO Georgia waterfalls as summer recreation. Not very many places in the world as mysteriously lovely as north Georgia mountains.

I met Helen and took 2 classes from her in March of 2021.

She spoke into my life early on in my journey in/of/to physical healing and her words to listen to and love my body resurface continually, like some primordial ooze.

We are ready to take the next step:)

Nia White Belt Participant ~ Rosie

Hello!

I am Rosemary Morris & I also go by Rosie.  I am a Chicago native, currently living in St. Petersburg FL.

My husband Vic & I have 3 grown sons all married or with significant people at their sides.

I love movement & exercise of many types.  Nia first called me many years ago and getting my White belt has been a dream since!

I am way overdue for a retreat as being with a lovely, conscious group of women always rejuvenates and enlivens me.   So excited to be dancing, learning & growing together!

Last Training of the year at Soma Ranch

Are you loving the change of weather and falling of leaves? I like it all other than the cold! Good news is I love pumpkin and how it’s in everything at the moment from my coffee, to my soup and even ice cream :-)

I’m getting a little nostalgic as I realize this upcoming training is the last of the year at Soma Ranch! Would you like to join us? the whole course or a class awaits - I can guarantee yummy things pumpkin too :-)

Helen's back from Budapest

Helen Terry

I’m delighted to be back at the ranch having experienced what feels like the best Nia White Belt training I’ve ever led. What’s “funny” is I was also the most unwell I’ve been during a training EVER! The expression “the brighter the light the more moths” somehow resonates with my immediate experience and also the “story of my life”.

We had 23 on the course (22 women and 1 man!). I lost my voice by the middle of day 2 and led the remaining 8 classes completely silent. From the space created from the absence of talking, I entered into a new deeper relationship with the music, the moves and my connection with self, group, the energy of the room and even God. The result was an invigorating, vibrating, deeply connected experience for me and the class, with a sense of “us” by the end of the routine (or perhaps before the end of the first song!).

I’m preparing to become a Brown Belt trainer, the Nia course with a focus on energy. The opportunity to teach in a new and unique way across a series of classes was most invaluable. I feel like an energy warrior in training, having been provided with the perfect pre-course challenge. Without my loss of voice I would not have considered teaching an entire course of classes during a white belt training without talking, and yet my sore throat was the gift to launch me into a new place. I now wonder if I’ll ever want to talk in class again!

Side note of fascination:… Zumba may have something right… my understanding is their teachers don’t talk while teaching… I think they are on to something!

extra side note: I need to get some new photos uploaded as my hair is now longer enough to put in a pony tail! :-)
